Self-Esteem

​Self-esteem, self-respect, self-love, self-confidence all come down to how we feel about ourselves. During our life, we can end up with beliefs about ourselves that we need to challenge. Beliefs like "I'm not good enough," "I don't belong," "I a problem," "I'm undeserving," "I don't matter," "my needs don't matter"... 

These thoughts need to be challenged. These thoughts need to be investigated to see where they are coming from. Ultimately these thoughts need to be replaced with ones that lift you up rather than tear you down.

That is easy to say but hard to do. We can know its essential to think positively in our heads, but we may not believe it in our hearts. Here is where counselling can help and how counselling is different than a self-help book. Self-help books can be useful, and they can help to educate us. Still, it is in connection with another person, for example, a counsellor, that we can move beyond knowing something in our head to feeling in our hearts.
