Covid-19

Are you struggling to cope with the changes Covid-19 is bringing to your life? Are you experiencing more stress and anxiety? Is not being able to see people and hug friends getting to you? Are you finding it hard working from home with kids and spouses and pets around? Is it frustrating not being able to do anything? Have you lost your job and aren't sure what is next? Do you want to work but live with someone who has a compromised immune system and the risk of working is just too high? Did all your plans for life come apart with Covid-19?

To add to the current struggles, our normal forms of connection and support are not available. Chatting with a co-worker in the lunch room, hanging out with friends after-work, meeting up with our social group or activity group on the weekend. It can feel like we are in this alone.  But, we aren't. We can all connect around Covid-19.

"I can connect with friends online why pay for an online counselling session or support group? " Sometimes we have friends and family who are wonderful loving and supportive people but they don't know how to hold space. What does that mean? Holding space is a counselling term that means the counsellor puts you and your needs first, that you are given space to express yourself and share what is going on without judgement or bias or competition. Sometimes when we share our struggles with a friend they make it about them. "You think you have it bad, that's nothing compared to what happened to me." Or you share something and it stress them out "What do you mean you can't pay your bill, you can let that happen, that is horrible, its the end of the world."  Their reaction adds to what you are already feeling, and not in a positive way.

As a counsellor I want to create a safe space for you to share what is going on and what you are feeling and help you connect with your feelings, your anxieties and fears and support you where you are at.  Just sharing our fears and anxieties can lessen their hold on us.  I also want to help you build your internal resources which will provide you with strength and support in the long run which will help to lessen your anxiety overall.

Asking for help is hard. Sometimes it take a crisis to help us see that we can't do it all alone, that support and connection and community is what we need.

Something to consider is that when you look back on the Covid-19 crisis what action did you take that was positive and meaningful? Often it is easier to help others, to focus on others. That is not an options right now for most of us. Often we are so focused on helping others that we don't take care of ourselves. Covid-19 is an opportunity for self-care.

Here's how I want to help you.

I am offering 40 minute counselling sessions for $25/session. Sessions are done online (or via phone) using Webex and pre-payment is required using Paypal (credit card) or e-transfer.  Sessions will focus on anxiety you are feeling during this crisis and with a goal of helping you to process the anxiety in order to understanding the underlying feelings and then help you develop the resources you need at this time.  Its about dealing with the current anxieties and fears and building resources for the long term.

I am also offering a Covid-19 Online Support Group which is 90 minutes long and is for 3 to 6 people at a time and is $20/session.  Session are done online (or via phone) using Webex and pre-payment is required using Paypal (credit card) or e-transfer.  Sessions are an opportunity for people to check in and share with the group about their struggles. Generally speaking each session will follow the same format, a chance for each person to check in and share how they are feeling. From there we will see what common themes might be coming up for the group and then we  We might do a group exercise or give someone more time to share what is going on for them or talk more about feelings and anxieties that might be coming up at this time and how to cope with them.
Kindness is always an option. The more kindness you show yourself and the more kindness you show others the more kindness there is. Kindness is a exponential resource.
